Casey seeks first win of the year, Spieth scores hole-in-one

Paul Casey got off on the right footing on Thursday’s opening round of the Hero World Challenge, giving him a chance to win what would be his first tournament of the year.

Casey birdied the last hole at Albany Golf Club for a 6-under 66 finish, putting him alongside Jimmy Walker and Zach Johnson in the lead. The field played well in general, with Hideki Matsuyama the only player not to break par (75).

Defending champion Jordan Spieth scored a hole-in-one with his 6-iron on the second hole and birdied a par 5 to put him at 67 alongside numerous others, including Bubba Watson and Adam Scott, who lives nearby and holds the course record.

Casey is one of only five players who has not had a win this season.

“The only blemish I can think of is maybe I left a putt short on line, which is a little criminal,” Casey said. “Other than that, I played some really, really nice golf.”
