Former PGA champion Davis Love III is set to be named captain of the 2015 Ryder Cup, according to reports.
Should the rumours be true, it would be the second time that Love has captained the team. He previously led them to the infamous defeat in 2012 at Medinah, when Europe came back from a 10-6 deficit to win by 14.5-13.5 on the final day.
That loss was one of eight defeats the American’s have experienced in the past 10 Ryder Cup events, a fact which spurred the PGA of America to assemble an 11-person Ryder Cup task force, of which Love is a member.
Also on the task force are Tom Lehman, who captained the US to defeat in 2006, and Steve Stricker, who has 12 PGA Tour victories under his belt. According to the Golf Channel, both men have been tipped to play a part in Love’s team for Hazeltine in 2016.
Love, although he only won one major in 1997, competed in six Ryder Cups from 1993 onwards. He got a taste for victory in 1993 and 1999, and he will no doubt be hungry for more in 2016.
