Major Golf Organizations Distance Themselves from Trump

Amidst all the controversy regarding Donald Trump’s comments about Mexican immigrants, the real estate tycoon has said that the golf industry supports him as “they know I’m right”.  Four of the world’s leading golf organizations disagree.

In a joint statement, the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, USGA and PGA of America said that Trump’s views on Mexican immigrants and the supposed support from the golf industry are inaccurate.

When interviewed on the Golf Channel, Trump explained that he has received “tremendous support” from the golf world, who “know I’m right.”

“In response to Mr. Trump’s comments about the golf industry ‘knowing he is right’ in regards to his recent statements about Mexican immigrants, we feel compelled to clarify that those remarks do not reflect the views of our organizations,” the joint statement said.

 “While the LPGA, PGA of America, PGA TOUR and USGA do not usually comment on presidential politics, Mr. Trump’s comments are inconsistent with our strong commitment to an inclusive and welcoming environment in the game of golf.”

Trump owns a sizeable portfolio of golf courses around the world. In total there are 18 courses already open or being built, and some of these are set to host events by the aforementioned golf organizations.
