Like many people, Rory McIlroy has been waiting a LONG time for a fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
Well, the day is almost here. Las Vegas will host this colossal boxing showdown on Saturday and Rory, even if he is still in the running for the World Golf Championships – Cadillac Match Play, plans to make the short flight to Nevada. The world’s best player hopes to fly from San Francisco to Las Vegas on Saturday night to attend the MGM Grand, where he has a ringside seat.
“I always said if these two guys fought each other, I wouldn’t miss the opportunity to go,” McIlroy said on Tuesday. “Luckily, we’re somewhere close, and hopefully I’m still part of this tournament at that time, but it just wasn’t an opportunity that I was going to miss.”
If McIlroy gets past the pool play section of the tournament, during which he will play with Brandt Snedeker, Billy Horschel and Jason Dufner, he would move through to the final 16 and into the elimination part of the tournament. If he wins the first elimination match on Saturday afternoon, he’d go on to play in the final match on Sunday morning.
