Jordan Spieth has reached the No. 1 spot for the fourth time in three months. The 22-year-old Texan displaced Australian Jason Day from the top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings following his tie for seventh place finish at the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions in Shanghai.
“It was certainly a goal coming into this week,” Spieth said. “I didn’t know what it was going to take but I knew if I had a good week, it would be an improvement on a couple years ago. I knew I could go somewhere with it.”
The last appearance Jason Day has made was in the end of September in the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola, mainly due to the imminent birth of his second child. He dropped to fourth following the weekend’s competition, and Rory McIlroy remained in third place.
