It’s common knowledge that Phil Mickelson is absolutely lethal around the green. His ability to effectively alter his technique to suit specific shot types puts him in a league above most other professional golfers.
There are loads of different factors to take into account when playing these shots: the lie, the distance to the green, the position of the pin and any hazards to clear. Being able to take all of these factors together and put a ball so close to the hole makes Mickelson the perfect person to provide us with some short game tips.
Mickelson explains that “the biggest thing in hitting a lob shot is assessing the lie.” There are two main types of flop shots: shots from a short lie and shots from a fluffier lie. You’ll have to alter your technique depending on how your ball is sitting.
