Rory McIlroy was playing better golf than anyone in the world before he suffered an injury in the run-up to the Open Championship this year. He had retained the top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings for 26 weeks before being overtaken by Jordan Spieth.
If there’s one weakness in McIlroy’s game, it’s often cited to be his short game. However, there was nothing weak about it during the opening round of the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
Challenged with a massive putt on the 17th hole, the Northern Irishman opted to play a pitch instead of a putt. It may sound crazy, but he managed to get up-and-down.
