Fairway bunker shots are an aspect of the game which trouble many golfers. One reason for this is that it’s not a very common position to find ourselves in, compared to greenside bunkers, for example. Also, golfers often approach these shots without any real vision of where the ball is going to finish. Many people just try to get as good a connection as possible, knocking it somewhere further towards the green.
As you will know, these shots require a much different technique to a shorter, greenside bunker shot. Instead of coming sharply down on the ball, hoping to get enough lift to pop it over the lip of the sand trap and onto the green, we must approach the ball with a flatter swing.
